Em Ford
Em Ford is a “self-taught London-based makeup lover” who aims to educate her audiences about makeup, self-love, and self-acceptance (Ford). Since her start in 2014, Ford has bravely shared unedited and unfiltered pictures of herself as a way of remaining vulnerable with her audience. Her most viral video, “YOU LOOK DISGUSTING,” displays negative, degrading comments that she has received about her skin and her appearance.
In Ford’s own words, the film has for purpose to “show how social media can set unrealistic expectations both on women and men…. We’re so used to seeing false images of perfection, and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that it can be hard to remember the most important thing - You are beautiful” (Ford).
Since initially posting her film, Ford has garnered around 40 million views and thousands of positive feedback. In addition to her viral video, Ford has also launched a campaign “#creatorsforchange” that aims to redefine what it means to be “pretty” and “beautiful” in society. Today, Ford continues to share her message of positivity and self-acceptance through her Youtube and Instagram.
